Archive for April, 2011

Okay…not only do I have a fabulous editor and wonderful copyeditor at Houghton Mifflin, but the graphic designer, Carol Chu, continues to amaze me with the incredible artwork she does for my book covers.

Here is the preliminary cover for my May 2012 book RADIATE…

This cover really captures the essence of the story….although, *I* never could have performed *that* move as a cheerleader! LOL!!

What do you think?

Well…here I sit at my gate at LAX. Fortunately, I have internet, am streaming Music One, and have battery power for my phone and computer.

I just spent an awesome, harried, exhausting four days at the Westin Bonaventure at the RT Booklovers Conference. This was my first time at RT and I especially loved hanging out with my fellow YA authors, other writer friends, my agent, and meeting soooooo many exicted teen readers. Wow…Teen Day totally rocked and I’m still buzzing from signing so many books.

Here’s a recap:

Wednesday when I got to the hotel, my agent, Deidre Knight, was the first person I ran into. How cool is that? Checked into my room, hit the goodie room for free books, and then got ready for dinner. I got to join my fellow St. Martin’s Press authors at a yummy dinner at Cafe Pinot (the mushroom risotto rocked) and had fun chatting about the paranormal with my new buddy, Celeste Bradley. Then, I hung out in the hotel with my friend, author, Kristen Painter, TKA marketing guru, Jia Gayles before dashing off to the Hollywood Hills for a YA party at Melissa de la Cruz’s house where I saw friends Rosemary Clement Moore, Carrie Ryan, and Tera Lynn Childs. I also got to meet the fabulous Alyson Noel, Rachel Vincent, and Jennifer Lynn Barnes.

Thursday morning started off with a panel with my agent, Deidre Knight, on “The Reel Hollywood” where we discussed book film rights from the agent and author perspectives. We had a full room and several people told us afterwards that it was one of the best panels they’d ever been to. Whoohoo! Then, I enjoyed my first ever Korean BBQ at lunch with fellow Buzz Girls, Tina Ferraro, Dona Sarkar, and Heather Davis. I treated myself to a relaxing pedicure, where I ran into my friend, Alicia Wyman, aka Samantha Cayto. Dinner was out at McCormick and Schmidt’s with NYT’s and USA Today bestseller and good friend, Simone Elkeles and Tina Ferraro. They put us in the “VIP” area and treated us like queens. I also enjoyed seeing TKA agent, Elaine Spencer, although it was too brief.

Friday I sat in Club RT and chatted with readers about my GHOST HUNTRESS series. I even gave away a “Ghost Hunting 101″ basket full of books, t-shirts, ghost hunting equipment, and other goodies. My friend Chris Marie Green (aka Crystal Green) stopped by for a visit and I gave away gourmet cupcakes to people who visited my table. After a chai with a few friends, I headed to Santa Monica Pier with my agent, Deidre Knight, and her family for dinner and an evening of rides. It was so much fun to hang out and cut up. It was a gorgeous night with a breathtaking sunset. Later, I helped buddy Simone Elkeles plot the ending for her next book with Dona Sarkar and Heather Davis and a lovely bowl of onion soup.

Saturday was the highlight of the trip! Teen Day featured about 500 teenagers who came with friends and parents to the booksigning. I sold a bunch of GHOST HUNTRESS books, met so many fans — new and old — and had a blast! Afterwards was a two hour teen party wher guests were given free book goodie bags. I signed sooooooo many books that I literally have a blister on my right hand. So much fun to see the readers and the smiles on their faces when they meet their favorite authors. When the party was done, I joined fellow authors, Heather Davis, Tera Lynn Childs, Dona Sarkar, Sophie Jordan, and Claire Dunkle at a delicious dinner at Border Grill.

Again, an amazing time, but I’ll be glad when Southwest airlines finally gets there stuff together and I can fly out of here. Looks like another two hours…

And as a little treat…I have a TON of rocking books to giveaway in the coming weeks. Keep checking back for your chance to win!

As I type, I’m literally winging my way west to California for the RT Booklovers Conference in Los Angeles.  Thanks to a well-spent $5 donation to Southwest Airlines, I have a WiFi connection.  Could life be any cooler?

I’m excited about the conference where I will be speaking with my agent, Deidre Knight, on a panel about selling movie rights.  I’ll also participate in the booksigning, Teen Day, speed-reading/dating, Club RT, gift basket giveaway, and anything else I can get into.  LOL!  If you’re in the LA area, stop by for the huge booksigning on Saturday, April 9th!

And just one last thing…had to post this…it’s a sign I saw while in the security line at the airport.  Do we *really* need to have an official sign like this?  Are so many people doing this that they HAD to make a sign?  I worry about us sometimes…

Looking forward to hanging with the Buzz Girls!!
