Archive for November, 2010

As I write this from the passenger seat of my RV, we are about two hours east of Santa Monica which will conclude our coast-to-coast trip that began in Baltimore on November 5th. We’re pulling into SoCal just in time to be included in a wonderful Thanksgiving dinner and celebration with our friends The Wilsons.

This is Midge, towing Conniption the (Honda) Fit…get it?

Having just come cross-country, over 3,000 miles, there is much thankfulness. I’m thankful for the love and support of my sweetheart, Patrick, who not only did his share of driving us out here, he also took care of pumping the gas, dumping the water tanks (don’t make me go into too much detail! LOL!), and taking care of any needed repairs here and there.

I’m also very thankful to the many friends and family we stayed with (called “boondocking” in RV vernacular) along the way from Baltimore to Chicago to St. Louis to Joplin, across Oklahoma, Texas, and New Mexico, to Arizona and finally to California.

And I’m thankful for this beautiful country that we live in. I am truly in awe of her beauty…literally, from the mountains, to the prairies, to the oceans. We watched the leaves turn colors on the east coast and then saw the flat plains of the midwest change into the deserts of the southwest and into the mountains. I’m a writer, yet I have no words to describe the things we’ve seen except…wow.

Okay…the last one was just silly, but fun!

Where have your travels taken you? Where would you like to go?

Our trip west has been amazing. Today, we were rolled all the way through Arizona. And what amazing scenery! We took in the Petrified Forest and the Painted Desert which were….beyond words. Since I’m a writer, that’s a huge thing for me to admit.

I stopped at one of the touristy places and bought my own chunk of petrified wood. I’m completely fascinated by the process involved…and the result.

We also made a trip out to the meteor crater. Fifty-thousand years ago, a meteor hit the earth and made this monstrous hole in the ground. Standing in front of it, it almost felt small in a weird way.

Tomorrow, we officially cross into California and our trip will be complete, ending at our friend’s house in time for Thanksgiving.

Have you ever made a trek out west? What was your favorite site?

I know…I know…I really do suck as a blogger.  It’s just that life is so….crazy for me.  But I vow to be better and have some structure here.

As you may know, I live full-time in an RV with my sweetheart, paranormal investigator and star of TruTV’s Haunting Evidence, Patrick Burns.  We travel extensively going to conferences, investigations, and seeing the United States in our rolling home.  At the beginning of November, we started off in Chicago, Illinois, and started heading west, following the path of Old Route 66.  We have already had many exciting adventures and seen so many amazing things on our way to California.

Here’s the RV (we affectionately call her “Midge”) with Conniption the Fit (get it?) being towed behind.  This is just across the New Mexico border.

My goal for the blog here is to be more consistent and updating fans with information about the books, my travels, and just life and society in general.  Here’s the schedule of blog posts:

Manic Monday – a recount of my travels, conferences, events, etc. that I’ve been to and a preview of events to come
Toss Up Tuesday – random posts about anything I see fit from current events to what I’m reading
Writer Wednesday – advice for aspiring writers or just general chatting about my writing habits and projects I’m currently working on
Thriller Thursday – talk about the paranormal and share readers’ stories and experiences or even some pics and EVPs from my own investigations
Foodie Friday – for the foodie in me to share recipes, new restaurants, incredible meals, etc.
Say What Saturday – I’ll answer emails and questions from fans and readers
Somber Sunday – I’ll post a picture or quote or similar for deep thought and inspiration

I hope you’ll bookmark and check back daily!  You never know when there will be random book giveaways, contests, and other fun stuff here!

Thanks for reading!
